Nothing like the holidays…

Things have been going mostly smoothly as of late. I got a new job working for a non-profit company that employs >70% people with some sort of disability. It’s a fun, rewarding job, and I’m even learning some sign language and having conversations (albeit VERY limited) with everyone. Overtime is a constant inevitability. Sometimes I am forced to work Sundays, but the rewards of having a “big girl” job outweigh some of the downsides.

Now that the holidays are nearing, it’s getting more exciting knowing that I have money in the bank to go and make some nice presents. I’ve really been trying to focus on handmade items, and encouraging recipients to engage in handmade crafts. I’d love to go more into detail, but that would ruin it for those of you receiving presents from me this year!

With all of this going on, it was a real shock to receive a curveball from my doctor.

Since I was 19, I’ve had nasty, debilitating headaches. At first I thought it was eyestrain. Bought a pair of glasses, and all seemed much better. After getting married, I found my headaches returned. Thinking it was reactions with birth control (we want kids, but not right after gettin’ hitched!), so we bounced around with 4-5 different pills.

We decided it would be better job-wise to move to Seattle (my hometown) and begin our life there. Once we moved, my headaches mysteriously vanished. It wasn’t until I got my new job that the headaches returned YET again! We discovered that whenever I went from a humid area to an arid area, my head would feel like it’ll explode.

Went to the doc last week, and had a CT Scan done of my head. What we wanted to find was sinusitis. What we found was totally different.

He found a small bony tumor growing behind my eyes. They’re not sure if it is affecting anything, or if it’s weakened/broken the bone that protects my brain, so it’s a little scary. I was told it’s most likely benign, but we are playing it safe, and getting an MRI, and a biopsy done.

In all of this, I’ve remained relatively calm compared to my family around me.  I think it’s because I know that I have family to help around me, and God to watch over me. One of Jake’s cousin’s husband contacted me to let me know he wanted to see the scans and help to make a diagnosis.

I will try to keep information updated here as I get more scans done in the next few weeks. I feel silly asking, but please keep me in your thoughts and prayers.
